Saving Private Ryan? Blackhawk Down? Tears of the Sun? Did audiences leave these movies with a positive view of America? While these war movies show a lot of personal heroism, do they give any overall impression other than "war is hell," and that the soldiers are mostly victims of their situation?
I will easily grant you the excellent example of "Apollo 13" (I would also put the miniseries "From the Earth to the Moon" in this category, now that you bring it to mind) and maybe "Pearl Harbor." "Schindler's List" didn't really have anything to do with America except peripherally.
