Oh, okay. Pol Pot wasn't "really" a communist.
Yeah, yeah, I know. I've heard that song since I was old enough to pay attention to such things. Neither was Stalin, Mao, Ho Chi Minh, or any of the other tyrants responsible for more murders of their own people than any other philosophy or political system in the history of mankind.
Every single nation that has called itself Marxist has ended up as a reeking, poverty-stricken hellhole that routinely murders its own citizens by the thousands and millions, destroys human rights on all levels, and requires military force to keep its own people from fleeing over its borders like animals from a forest fire.
Every single one.
These nations had many different languages, many different histories, many levels of industrialization, many different races, and many different cultures. The one common factor was the worship by their leaders of the collectivism of Karl Marx. Whether they were actually consistent with the writings in "Das Kapital" is irrelevant. The results are what count, and so far they are humming along at 100 percent. Hellholes, every one.
Further proof? Some of these nations were actually set up right next to identical nations which chose capitalism and democracy as a way to run a country. North and South Korea. East and West Germany. China and Taiwan.
The results of these experiments were clear and unmistakable.
A person actually using reason, instead of relying on academic fog about how the dialectic fahrfegneugen wasn't brillig so it wasn't "real" Marxism, could draw a conclusion from this.
One conclusion is that you shouldn't be listening to Marxists, either on campus or anywhere else. Rational universities wouldn't be hiring people who advocate it to their students either.
Your example about Catholic priests doesn't hold up. If every single Catholic Bishop or other religious leader in history had been a child molester, one could come to a certain conclusion about Catholicism. The fact that child molestation is not part of the Bible or formal catechism would be beside the point.
I lose a lot of respect for people who bend over backwards to defend Marxism. It has no more right to being treated as a valid alternative philosophy than Nazism does. A professor or anyone else who advocates Marxism should be treated exactly the same as one who stood up and advocated Nazism.
