Look who is the chairman for Human Rights in the UN. It's Libya and one of the worst violators of human rights Cuba will have a seat on the commission too. What a joke, that's like putting Saddam in charge of WMD.

Sergio de Mello (the UN high commissioner who was killed in Iraq)was once asked about this very same issue.
His answer was: SHE (yes, it's a woman from a muslim country) had showed she was up to the job ; of course, she's surrounded by colleagues from other countries who won't miss her if she makes a mistake. And besides, if a person becomes a UN employee , he must forget where he came from and work for the interest of his employer. That's what judges at the European Court of Justice must do, for instance.

The UN didn't stop Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, yet everybody new he would invade. The only wars the UN try to stop are the ones that need to be executed to stop these madmen and violators..

I don't think the UN has spy satellites capable of doing this. Nor has it armies ready to intervene immediately. Resolutions are needed for it and that's what happened during Gulf War 1.
