I wasn't speculating as to when the *whole world* oil reserves would run out, just North America. N.A. reserves have decreased steadily since 1982. Most especially since Mexico revised their reserve estimates downward by 50% in 2002. At current production levels we've got 10 years left. Period. Check out the BP excel spreadsheet.
Saudi Arabia appears to be willing to increase production to meet demand. But how long will this favorable international arrangement exist? Their goal is to keep the price high.
There are basically two large-scale solutions:
1. Cellulosic bioethanol.
2. Coal liquefaction.
The first is renewable, the second isn't.
