I've seen it documented in several sources, including the whiplash-inducing 180 degree turn the radical Left in America made when Hitler suddenly became Stalin's enemy. All of a sudden, pacifism went out the window, and socialist publications that had hailed the peace pact suddenly disappeared. Try and find a copy of Pete Seeger's record "Songs for John Doe."
Incidentally, the fact that Hitler and Stalin ended up trying to kill each other has nothing to do with any philosophical differences, and does not validate the Left's decades-long desperate attempt to try and place Nazism at a diametrically opposite pole from Marxism.
Just because two gangs of thugs try to kill each other for territory or other reasons does not make them moral opposites. Or different in any significant way at all. Just out of curiosity, how many strikes and labor actions took place under Stalin?
Secret police. Persecution of Jews and other minorities. Control of the individual by the State. No democracy. State control of the press and media. Rule by dictators. Concentration camps. Death camps. Summary execution of political enemies. Control of the means of production by the State. Massive military aggressiveness. Imperialist goals and actions. And the systematic murder of millions of their own citizens by the order of the State.
As far as I'm concerned, they aren't even two sides of the same coin. It's the same damn side.
Current Events » in reply to Actually Hitler feared the Socialist and Communists, made them illegal, closed down all labor unions, prohibited strikes, etc. do I have to continue to show you how wrong you are?
I was discussing the Left in the U.S.
