Fake stories
I have wondered about throwing something plausible like that out there, but it would not do my credibility any good, and I don't want to think about what it would be like if it ran off on its own. Myths, especially when they fulfill the worst expectations of those who live for bad expectations, are almost unkillable.
The George Bush "plastic turkey" meme is still floating around out there.
