Yes it is

"It is one of the biggies no doubt but it's naive to think the Islamists would suddenly start liking us if only we helped them get rid of Israel."

Of course it would be naive, and I don't think that.

Your language is atrocious. It is not "Islamists" that are the problem here, it is not even Islamic Fundamentalists - it is Israel's continuing land grabs that incite everyone in the Moslem world.
"Islamic Fundamentalism" has spread the same way "Islamic Socialism" spread earlier, solely because of those peoples frustrations at their governments' unwillingness to undertake suicidal attacks against Israel.

The only reason "Islamic Fundamentalism" has taken hold is because of Israel's continuing land grabs. Most moslems would prefer either
1) enjoying the beaches in Lebanon, or
2) enjoying a pipe and trac down at the cafe.

Having started with the language, lets move on to your knowledge of history. You show no awareness of the Cairo conference which took place after Rabin's initiative, where the governments of the entire Moslem world expressed their approval and acceptance of it, and announced that they would no longer support or tolerate "terrorist" (guerilla) operations.

I expect that after a massive UN deployment the "fundamentalist" aspect of Islam will diminish rapidly, with a remnant continuing on for 20 years or so.

"Another major problem is a staggering 500 million illiterate arabs."

Without the need for massive military spending, maybe more money could be spent on education.
Speaking of which, how much of our own spending is driven solely by Israel's continuing land grabs.

"Another problem is a lack of democracy and freedom in the arab world."

The first thing a really free Iraq would do is
1) embargo Israel
2) cut off oil sales to Israel
3) cut off oil sales to Israel's sole supporter, the US
4) Increase military spending, including spending on nuclear, chemical and biological weapons, to prepare for an attack on Israel

"Another problem is fundamentalist Islam is culturally and militarily at war with Western Civ."

The driver is not Islamic values, it is the anger and frustration with continued Israeli land grabs.

"And thinking UN deployment to the West Bank and Gaza would result in anything but a boatload of dead UN troops followed by their hasty reteat out of there is wishful thinking."

There will be attacks and casualties, but without the driver of Israel's expansion, the general public would not support guerilla attacks on UN troops - and guerillas can not function without that support.

"The solution is the one Sharon has been pursuing. Unilateral Israeli withdrawl and separation."

Talk about naive.

First off, how is Sharon going to unilaterally withdraw from the West Bank, when he can not even withdraw from Gaza?

But more importantly, you're thinking of the wall as a separating wall instead of as a military structure. With his rear secured by the wall, Sharon will be able to concentrate his military forces in the West Bank, instead of having to patrol his rear.

I also doubt if the Palestinians will accept 27% of their remaining land being seized by a wall, with another 27% or so seized as "greater Jerusalem".

My thinking is tht if anyone is naive here, it is you.

My point is that Israel already has settlers
