The question about torture has come up here before. I believe we had a discussion that should torture be performed if a person’s life was at risk. More specifically, if a child was kidnapped and we had a specific suspect in custody.
I personally think it would depend on the situation, the suspect (What kind of evidence they have and the suspects record) and what we consider torture (physical damaging harm I am completely against).
What about using torture on enemy solders to save American solder’s lives?
What about using torture on terrorist to prevent another 9/11?
Like with the kidnapping situation above, I think it depends on the factors involved.
As for the Iraq prison incident. From what I have seen, it wasn’t torture, it was humiliation. I think it was wrong.
Torture is dirty business and it can save lives, but is it worth it? Is their another way? Remember, these people might have information that could save lives, but they do not want to share it.
There are different levels of torture. On the extreme side there is physical harm and even death. In the middle, pain is used, but it does no physical harm. On the low side is physiological. The extreme side of torture should never be used. We should not physically harm or kill POW or terrorist. But what about the middle and low side?
Torture. Is there a place and time for it?
