re: Let me spell it out for you

You're reading way too much into the assertion that one of Saddamn's Fedayeen is a member of al Qaeda. He's allegedly a prominent member--why would it be surprising or significant that a highly-trained Iraqi internal-terrorist with a disposition to brutality would rise high in the ranks of al Qaeda? I'd be more surprised if he'd remained a footsoldier. Out of all the epithets you hear applied to al Qaeda, you rarely hear the word "stupid". Of course they'd welcome with open arms a Fedayeen who showed up wanting to join their cause.

How would it strengthen your argument if there turned out to be more than one such former-Fedayeen in the ranks of al Qaeda? There are reportedly something like 20,000 members of al Qaeda, and I think there were something like 100,000 Fedayeen--what are the odds? Where would the Fedayeen go after we invaded Iraq and destroyed their organization? Hell, man, you'd only surprise me if you asserted that there were no Fedayeen in al Qaeda. That would defy the odds and common sense.

Are you hoping this implies some sort of "officer exchange" program between al Qaeda and Iraq? Then where's the al Qaeda counterpart in Saddam's government? We have most of their paperwork and most of the old Baathist bigwigs, and not a hint has come out suggesting that a member of al Qaeda was part of the Iraqi government. That would sure be a smoking gun and the Bush Administration would have trumpeted it to the heavens. But nada. Zip.

There's nothing there. You're hallucinating.
