Normally I don't enter these unresolvable pissing contests* but it's an interesting conundrum that I cannot resolve. First, I do believe that it's HIS money. What I struggle with is how to decide, who decides, etc. and how much needs be "appropriated" from a citizen for promoting the general welfare. I would love the Libertarian fantasy to be true, but I feel its implementation fails in reality even though I know of no instances where it's been truly tried. I do know that the socialist world view has enslaved and killed tens of millions. So, do we just muddle through with our imperfect, inefficient form of govt with its increasing budget of "transfer payments" to those most powerful voting constituencies (e.g. in MA the Teachers Union, the elderly)? Seems like a long slide to socalism from my perspective.
At least we all agree that the subsidies to corporations and agribusiness are wasteful. How come we the voters can't stop such corporate welfare?
