Yeah, I've struggled with it too, arguing both sides of the debate at various times. If there is an answer, I bet it lies somewhere in the middle. That's not a sexy response, but it might be workable.
Hillary's quote in Tom's post is...interesting. Obviously, the way things are now, the govt giveth and the govt taketh away...but even though I'm not rich by any stretch, Hillary could really alienate me with talk like that. It comes across a little on the glib side. IMHO she shouldn't concentrate on the taking part of the whole thing, but rather on the doing part. Show me my tax bucks are doing good things for people in need, and I'm not so surly about it all.
OTOH, since the govt can take it if they want to, it's ballsy of her to just throw it out on the floor like that. Full points for honesty.
