When I heard him asked about Bush's space plan at a town hall meeting here in New Hampshire, his answer was that he disagreed, because he thought we SHOULD focus on the space station!
He said he'd prefer to put resources into completing ISS "to fulfill our international committments" and into getting the shuttle flying again, instead of starting some expensive, crazy new program that's just political smoke and mirrors in any case.
Very dissapointing answer, as he gave no rationale for ISS/shuttle other than "sticking with what we're already doing", and he showed zero enthusiasm. I had the chance to hear most of the Democratic candidates asked about space, and Kerry gave the most lackluster answer.
Only Clark supported the Bush initiative -- heck, in one radio interview Clark was going on about he is convinced we'll eventually figure out a way to build a faster-than-light drive, since it is just awful to think that we're stuck in this one little solar system forever (bonus points for vision, if not for physics knowledge).
Most of the candidates managed to sound enthused about space, even while saying they didn't think the Bush plan sounded realistic/affordable.
