Mars is currently about 6 months away. Titan's 4 years away, I guess. In our lifetime (which I hope we can extend indefinitely, but...) Mars is a more viable target in Dr. Zubrin's creative and energetic mind. The Mars Society has an uphill battle politically, and a Titan one would have even more of one. That's not necessarily to say that Mars is more hospitable to human colonization in the long run. Apparently like you, though, I absolutely adore Mars (even though I'm willing to concede that in order to get there we may need to focus on incentivizing lunar tourism).
You're not the first I've seen to rather fondly mention prospects for Venus. I just don't get it, though. That place is kind of warm... I've read that folks would be content having floating colonies that don't touch its near molten surface. I've not studied up on Venus but I do recall reading that it's a lost cause at this stage in its development. I believe I've read that if we had gotten to it much sooner, such that we could have altered its course of development, then it might be much more hospitable. Are we going to be that hard up for whatever Venus uniquely has to offer, though? I guess the Russian lander on Venus lasted all of 1 minute before melting.
