no it doesn't - your own points are virtually lost in vitriolic noise

you've also lost a sense of proportion - prizes are good incentives, for special cases. Research is full of failures as well as successes - what should the researchers do during the 'bad' times of hard slogging - drive cabs to fund themselves maybe?

In fact, that's what a lot of researchers ARE doing - forced to do so by a privatization mentality that lost its sense of proportion, and went ballistic, socially speaking.

Ferkreissakes stop jumping up and down about federal and public funding for scientific work. It's idiotic to call RL a 'tax leech' - he is obviously working hard at his field, the field itself is obviously significant and useful to society, he therefore equally obviously deserves his salary, and as for who pays him and funds the facility: I couldn't care less. It could me McDonalds for all I give a damn - but that is less likely to happen than funding from the public purse.
