For example, I took note when Zubrin costed Mars Direct at $40 bil, but $20 bil if done privately. So don't think I miss your points: they are very signficant, and PRIZES ARE GREAT FOR SPECIFIC AND IMPORTANT CASES. Have i, or have i not, said that before??
But you IMO lose perspective in this thread - astronomers and science/engineering researchers who I have known - many of them - work bloody hard, AND get paid by 'the public dollar'. They have earned my great admiration and respect!
Look - everyone here knows this is personal between you and RL - I just wanted to 'chime in' on a couple of points that matter to me. I freely admit ignorance of the US economy, but still think that my own points are valid in general.
OK? Now, can you please not get so offended? Ta.

- Shouldn't the NSF offer competitive prizes for finding these things?
- Do you understand ANYTHING about science?
- R.L., why do you maliciously fear having to win PRIZES in order to get to leech more of our tax dollars?
- You demonstrate your stupidity better than I can... You obviously have NO CLUE as to how research dollars are awarded
- While we're on the topic of stupidity...
- R.L.'s got a point...
- Doesn't your nonsequitur-laden, substanceless response validate my hypothesis?
- I never lied on this you moron... LISTEN CAREFULLY KIDDO
- As if your childishly insecure challenge to 'wrasle' me isnt a non sequitur?
- no it doesn't - your own points are virtually lost in vitriolic noise
- Daniel, can you THINK about the rubbish that you're spewing in defense of tax-leeching R.L.?
- Actually, Daniel, the last time I was paid by 'The government' was when I was a grad student...
