If the U.N. screws this up, they aren't going to last past the next election. Oh...right.
Hey, there really aren't any consequences at ALL for the U.N. if it screws up, are there? Bush is facing the voters. corporations face stockholders, customers, and sometimes the law.
But the U.N. can louse up everything it touches. Does anyone get impeached? Has a secretary-general ever been removed for any reason? Where's the accountability? Hold up funding? The liberals turn purple if you suggest that.
