When the conservatives used the CIA to "stabalize" Chile....

Thanks for a great post.

At a time when there is a great deal of lip service being paid by conservatives to the imposition of "democracy" at any cost in Iraq, you have supplied a timely reminder to the true--and anti-democratic agenda of the Big-Business dominated right.

The Chilean experience witnessed the mysterious murder in Washington of finance minister Orlando Letillier and the CIA engineered de-stabalization of the democraticaly elected government of Salvador Allende. This de-stabalization saw the alleged suicide of this elected official. The rumor is that he shot himself 32 times.

Pinochet was chosen and trained by the CIA and installed as dictator to provide a "stable and conservative" government for Chile.

We need to be riminded of such transgressions. We need to be reminded of the ICJ decisions on our illegal mining of the harbor in Nicaragua.

America must be continuously reminded of the reckless and dangerous machinations of the military-industrial complex, such as Republican Dwight Eisenhower warned, and the present day Republicans seem intent to pursue.
