US conservatives do everything they can to weaken the UN and then complain because it doesn't have the power or authority to police the world the way they think it should.
Sorta reminds me of the way they react to education in the US. They refuse to give schools any power but they expect the school system to be perfect and in effect raise children "in loco parentis".
The US ignores conventions, refuses to join the community of nations on matters such as the ICC, womens and childrens rights, sales of weapons to third-world countries and then takes as it's highest duty enforcing UN resolutions against Iraq, while ignoring resolutions against Israel.
If there is a "rogue" nation out there, currently it is the US. Absolutely refuses to be a member of anything which doesn't blindly and slavishly follow the US agenda.
Worse, the conservative element in the US believes that everyone who doesn't completely embrace the US conservative agenda is an enemy at heart. Can't understand others having their own priorities, issues, ways of life.
And doesn't understand "community", "cooperation", or "compromise". Believes in moral relativity, that what the US does is understandable, what others do is completely reprehensible.
And that's very, very sad.
