We're not at war with France, are we?
Is there a single person shooting at our troops right now that would not be doing so if David Kay had come up with stockpiles instead of blueprints? How many Americans who thought Bush sucked in 2000, 2001, and 2002 would have decided to vote for him if stockpiles had been found?
"Respect" isn't always gauged by how many cheers you get coming off Air Force One in a European airport. You can get a lot of people to smile at you and pat you on the back by kissing ass. Not the same thing as respect.
Come to think of it, at this point I would consider the anger of nations like France to be almost a badge of honor.
Please reexamine your history of WWII, particularly in the treatment of German or <a href=http://observer.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,6903,500631,00.html">Japanese prisoners. God knows what would have happened if we had invaded the Japanese homeland with conventional ground troops.
Some perspective, and some context, would be useful here.
