Jonah Goldberg is talking about how "freaky hot" it is in Alaska. Lileks is complaining about unseasonable "October" cold in Minnesota, and believe me I know from living there that August in Minnesota when I lived there usually felt more like August in Florida.

Global warming? The suspected return of El Nino? Just one of those things? Who knows?
