Playing politics with terror (update)
A few days back I posted a message on the subject of the Administration's success at planting the idea that Al Qaeda has plans to disrupt the election with the unspoken, but not at all subtle, implication that Al Qaeda is afraid of Bush and would prefer Kerry.
Seems that they're running with it in a pretty heavy-handed way. A Washington Time article quotes "unnamed intelligence officials" as saying:
"The goal of the next attack is twofold: to damage the U.S. economy and to undermine the U.S. election," the official said. "The view of al Qaeda is 'anybody but Bush.' "
I did some searching for other references, and though the story's been repeated around the world, every references traces back to the Washington Times.
I'm sure the Right won't see it, but for everybody else: Geez, doesn't that stink to high heaven? The right-wing Washington Times? "unnamed intelligence officials"? "anybody but Bush"? I'd wail "do they really think we're that gullible???", but then I remember Lincoln's observation that you can fool some of the people all of the time...and you only need to fool a majority of the electorate to get reelected. I'll bet it's framed on Karl Rove's wall.
Yeah, tell me Bush isn't playing politics with terror. Pull the other one while you're at it...
