Clouds can be highly localized, and they tend to either form or not. No rhyme or reason that I can see to it. It was clear as a bell at sunset--I didn't go out until about 11:00. Maybe that was my mistake.

The night the Columbia made its last reentry over California--almost overhead--was the one cloudy night in about two weeks.
