Hi Lee

While leaving the booster at home seems trusting there is no real way to get to the stars fast enough without doing so. Rockets are just too heavy. Any realistic fusion-bomb driven vehicle can manage at most ~ 0.1 c. With a magnetic sail along for the ride you can slow down, but unless you can find a friendly gas giant at the other end refuelling could be laborious.
