Who was the first to walk upright?

Walking date pushed back 3 million years. The first plateau of human evolution was even longer than I thought. I thought it was the first step to a bigger brain, but this long period of stagnation in brain size at chimp level after walking rules that out. Wonder what the real spark for the first Hominid brain burst was? Yet another odd combination of chance?
