Evolutionary DNA Theory Has Come A Long Way

I used to laugh at it when they used the basis of evolution (nuclear DNA) to track evolution assuming changes were at a steady random rate. They were getting all kinds of seemingly silly numbers that diverged radically from the fossil record. The switch to mitochondrial DNA makes sense and seems to be making a lot of accurate predictions. Still not quite sure the generation time doesn't matter, but it sure should matter a lot less when mitochodria reproduce independently of the nucleus and sexual reproduction.
