Map 3 has a band approximately covering these areas, but I am unable to follow the dates.

MEKOCHE REMOVED AS LEADERS OF FEDERATION
Tenskwatawa, 'Open Door', the Shawnee Prophet

By this time the warriors and chief men found out the cause of the war, and they determined to take the medicine [council fire] from the Mekoche [Maakoatshaa] nation.

They accordingly watched for their opportunity, and taking from him the 1/2 of the medicine [council fire] originally given, they returned to Chilicothe. The Chilicothe were on the Mississippi River, where the council fire was kept.

[following commerntary fragile right now - This is most likely a reference to the period of the move by the Chilicother to Starved Rock on the Illinois River in 1683, and their subsequent move to Chilicothe, Illinois. After the Five Nations defeat by the western peoples, the Chilicothe would return to Chilicothe on the Ohio River.]

But the Chief of the Mekoche [Maakoatshaa] nation protested against the taking of the medicine [council fire], and he claimed the right to keep it, on account of his family being very ancient. The Chief of the Chilicothe [Tshilikallthee] nation was obliged to convince him of his own power by shooting the Sun, which occasioned an eclipse, and darkened the earth until they restored its light by the medicine.

The Chief of the Mekoche [Maakoatshaa] nation confessed the superior power of the Chilicothe [Tshilikallthee], and consented to relinquish his claim to the medicine, but only on the condition that he was not entirely deprived of character and standing in the federation. Whereupon they appointed the Chief of the Mekoche [Maakoatshaa] nation to be the counsellor for the whole confederacy.
