According to my Starynight program 1683 is the only year a solar eclipse would be visible during the time frame you gave, but I used St. Louis as home and I couldn't tell if it was a total eclipse.

If Raoul doesn't narrow it down for you with the lad/long you provided I'll see what I can do after work. Guys want to have fun too.
