Offensive and inappropriate to who?

Hi LJ.....interesting.
However you should know by now that dropping this hot potato on this board of right wing conservatives was going to bring out their salivating mumbo jumbo. I wonder if Ed or Geoff ever served, or if they're them- those patriotic chicken hawks whose idols are GWBush and Dick Cheney.

I think Nelson has the right idea (not Ed, either). It's about TIME someone paid attention to those who don't believe war and killing is the political answer for everything. How many went to Viet Nam would sign up again today?

I was born barely 100 miles west of Nelson and one of my oldest friends lives in BC. I met him in Toronto during the 60's, while he was evading the draft. He was born in Canada, but was an Irish citizen visiting his father in Florida, and they tried to draft him. He fled to Canada because he didn't want to fight. Pure and simple. I'd hesitate to say he's a lover, not a fighter; and people should have that choice. American citizens should be able to have a voice and be a conscientious objector.
Personally I think this war in Iraq is the biggest joke going around. Sign up to die for your country while defending it? Iraqis weren't invading us.
War is a breakdown of the political process. Following a blind leader is not always the best thing.

And rather than build the ire of a few Americans here who would spit at me for saying this, this IS an international board, and I think the idea of the town of Nelson paying tribute to their settlers is just fine with me. Thankfully Canada can still be herself, still instill creativity and individuality that doesn't have a totalitarian establishment that decries creativity with treason.

From a fellow Canadian..........
