I have an insciption from Palenque which mentions a comet, and gives a 690 AD (CE) date. The question was about the starting date for the Mayan count of days: an alternative date had been proposed, which would have yielded a date of 693 or so. Clearly the conventional start date for the Mayan count of days can be used.
