I was a big John McCain supporter (he represents my congressional district) for many years but have grown dissolutioned with the man recently and not simply because of his comb-over.
In the past months he has appeared to me to be disingenuous in his support of the President. He is out supporting a man that was absolutely cruel to him in the 2000 Presidential primaries and now he's giving these hugs to the guy with this strained look on his face. He still takes non-partisan issues to heart but there's been this change to his feel recently. He seems as if he's biting his tongue and holding back his true feelings about a man he must privately despise.
I think that's probably the lowest blow a politician can do to their constituents, to pretend to be non-partisan and then, when the chips are called in, to fold to the pressure. I've written numerous emails to my Senator McCain asking him to stop bowing to whatever pressure the Republicans are putting on him to kneel to their commands and have yet to receive an answer. I truly believe it's because he has no answer.
Bush has something on the man, something so heinous that even a principled man such as McCain can't bear to have released. Maybe his experiences in the POW camp put some submissive little spark in him that he can't overcome. I keep searching for that reason and hope the worst isn't so.
My fantasy is that at the 11th hour, McCain simply lets it all go, damn the torpedoes, and exposes the little dictator for what he truly is, a bully and a fundamentalist wacko. He'd have my vote forever after that.
Flame » in reply to Republicans like Bush over McCain (can't fathom why)
Any other state want him?
