continuing the sidetrack....
Would McCain have been able to sustain a credible run against Bush the incumbent if he had decided to run for the nomination?
Or would this have been too divisive in a time of war?

If he did capture the nomination, would his invulnerability sheen wear off as wavering democrats discovered exactly why McCain is a Republican, not a Democrat?
