Tektite strewn fields here on Earth can vary in size, depending on the force of the impact, but they are generally local. I guess that is were you were going in relation to why are the spheres found only at the Opportunity site, and other sites high in Hematite.
Mars has been bombarded with impactors on a global scale, so if these spheres are Tektites, they should be all over the planet- from the thousands of impactors. Over at the Spirit site, there is Bonneville crater. Why don’t we see spheres in sedimentary rocks there, if they are tektites? Spirit has found layered sedimentary rocks, but no spheres.
And why are the Opportunity spheres all chemically the same, if they are tektites. Tektites are made from molten material of whatever the impactor smashed into. They should vary in chemical composition. Did an impactor over at the Opportunity site just happen to hit a high concentration of Hematite?
