What exactly did Mr. Bush say his stand on abortion was? Is he pro-choice or anti-abortion? Fact is, he evaded answering this question like the plague. That's because he doesn't want to lose his conservative base, but also doesn't want to lose soccer Mom votes. In contrast, Kerry was clear and specific. Flip-flop.
And how about Mr. Bush's stand on extending the assault weapons ban? Pretty damn wishy-washy to me. On the one hand he said he supports it. On the other hand he admits not doing anything about it. Talk about playing two ends against the middle. Flip-flop.
And what about prescriptions drugs from Canada? In the last debate he explain why he opposed it. Yet, this time he supports importing Canadian flu vaccines. Flip-flop.
That was the entire tone of the entire debate - with Kerry being clear and specific and Bush on the defensive and evasive, but you failed to see it because of your own deep preconceptions. But most other Americans did see it, which explains the poll results.
Does this mean that Kerry will win the election? No. Not necessarily. Its just means he was a better more effective debator than Mr. Bush. Mr. Kerry is more effective at using facts and figures to make a point, while Mr. Bush had to resort to cheap sloganeering like "armies of compassion" - a phrase he had to resort to several times last night because he had nothing better to offer.
