I had a lot of trouble with Spybot, which seems to insinuate itself into the system a lot more than AdAware. On the other hand, people whose knowledge of computers I respect have sworn by it.

Since I am not a computer expert, especially in the dark realm of the Windows registry, I played it safe and removed Spybot (or more accurately, didn't install it after my rebuild.) Others will have to judge for themselves.
