Take into account the huge difference in population density, geographical area, availability and development of mass transport, miles of roadways, etc.

Europe and the US are vastly different in infrastructure, European cities are viable economic bases. Suburban sprall does not exist in any meaningful way. Central city decay is a non event. The results in the US would be much different than Europe.
