I was actually wondering how this might affect LIGO - they have already achieved incredible strain sensitivity with existing technology (ie technology often developed by them). I wonder if they will incorporate this new device, or if they even could at this stage .. how difficult is it to 'retool' .. questions like that. But I'm out of the loop there, so don't really know.
