Nellie McClung was one of the most important leaders of Canada's first wave of feminism, and she is still remembered for her role in the famous "Person's Case" which saw Canadian women declared persons in 1929.

In 1921 she was elected as a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta where she fought for mother's allowances, public health nursing, free medical and dental care for children, liberalised birth control, divorce laws, and improved property rights for married women.
