Payroll survey misses the self-employed and newly formed businesses
The payroll survey concentrates on people who work for others. However, it misses those who start businesses of their own. That covers a lot of ground. My former boss started his company in the late 1980s. For the first couple years, it was a one man operation. By the time he sold the company in 2000, he had 600 employees. Self-employment is more than those who sell stuff on eBay or who have paper routes.
