It was interesting to learn that 77,000 of the new jobs were created in Florida and the southeast as a result of the hurricanes. Not that the hurricanes employed them directly, of course--hurricanes don't carry cash. Rather, it was Federal disaster aid that created the jobs.
Not only were jobs created, even though the work will probably only last a year or two, those 77,000 workers will settle down and rent apartments and trailers, and spend their paychecks at the local stores and taverns. The Federal aid will indirectly help rebuild Florida's economy as well as its infrastructure, benefiting our beloved Small Businessmen by the bushel.
Kinda makes ya wish California'd been hit by a hurricane, doesn't it?
And you have to admit, demand-side stimulus has an impressive way of creating jobs and prosperity in hard times.
