If you go to this page, you can actually see a chart showing how they work this kind of thing out.
In the left-hand column, notice that the "dozens" is an anecdotal statement by a cleric, Sheik Dhafir al-Obaidi. It is accepted as true with no further confirmation, and that number taken into the total.
Moving to the right:
The "women and children" statements are from hospital officials in a city ruled by Zarqawi and his goons.
Expand this less-than-critical analysis by many other cases--go through the tables yourself and see--and what do you get? To the Iraqbodycount people, it is enough that some man come up and tell you that ten people were killed to add it to the count.
Iraqbodycount isn't taken seriously by serious people.
