This guy deals in relief work. He's not running for office, so he doesn't have to care if Americans like him. He probably doesn't have to work for the UN, either. Plenty of NGOs might be happy to have a person with his background and international contacts.

I'm going to say you would have given $250.00 to the Red Cross today without having been pissed off that someone said the words "stingy" and "United States" in the same paragraph. I bet, though, that the word game was the tipping point for a lot of people who otherwise would have shaken their heads and moved on to the next news story. Giving money to a "rival" organization might seem like a good way to get even.

It kind of depends on his objective.
