I continue to be amazed at how it is automatically assumed, without further evidence, that a terrorist is telling the truth when he makes a statement like this. But it gets him in the newspapers, doesn't it?
They are well aware that the media--among others--will swallow whole pretty much anything that makes the American war effort look bad.
