Rick Santorum has bilked the taxpayers of his local PA school district out of over $100,000 to homeschool his kids since 2001.

He and his wife have six children. They have a home in Virginia, which requires children to attend a public school or allows the family to pay for alternative schooling. The only homeschooling VA will pay for is delivered for medical reasons.

The law in Pennsylvania requires the school districts to pay for cyberschools.

So the Santorums claim their two-bedroom house in PA as their primary residence so they can get PA to pay for their homeschool adventure. Property taxes support education in PA. Property tax on the little starter home that the Santorums "live" in: $2000/year. Tuition for the Santorii for the year: $38,000.

Nice.

I say, let them live there during the school year. As in, shoehorn all six of their little keisters into that one bedroom, and let mom & dad have the other one. Let Dad commute from Pittsburgh on weekends. It's not as if he needs to get back to Alaska.

The least he could do is buy a house he could pretend they live in, which property taxes might cover the school district's expenses.

It's not nice to cheat your constitutents.
