Re: why it costs so much, you can visit the Santorii's now former cyberschool, the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School at their website. Note that Rick Santorum's adorable mug appears on the home page, with a link to his endorsement page. Looking around briefly provides no obvious billing information. Of course: because the parents are not billed. The school districts are, and by surprise. Included in the costs are a PC, a printer and internet access to the home, for which the school district pays.
One of my homeschool families took advantage of this offer, but didn't receive their computer on time, and wanted to use the library's internet computers for that. I had no problem with them using the computers -- for the same length of time as everyone else gets -- but the school's software wasn't compatible with our system's firewall. She wanted me to take down the firewall and install the school's software. I said no. If a for-profit school wants to use us to deliver their services, they'll have to rent the appropriate part of the facility just like everybody else.
