I'm honestly beginning to think that the very concept of war fighting is alien to the minds of many people. I'm hearing a lot of commentary (not just here) that sounds like chess masters trying to figure out how to win a hockey game.
It doesn't help that the mainstream media has picked a side, i.e. America will, and ought to, lose this war.
Today, I read in my local paper for about the twentieth time the phrase "the insurgency is attacking with impunity." The implication is that we are taking no toll at all on the enemy, and that our troops are pretty much milling around and running into walls.
Any insurgents killed in a battle are mushed into the news story with the civilians, and the story says "ten Iraqis died in the battle." Nothing more. No context, no background.
For a better idea of what's going on, CENTCOM is pretty good. A major terrorist cell has been decimated in the past couple of weeks. Did you hear about this anywhere else?
For every American casualty, about a dozen enemy are killed, or more often, taken into custody (our troops capture enemies when they can. Their fighters don't bother.) Does this make the news?
