I also suspect that the MS (and other) spyware prevention programs favor (allow) certain spyware over other.

Many programs use spyware. Power reg is one program that is used by many software companies.

I don't have a big problem with innocuous spyware and some company looking at my system occasionally. It is a resource and performance issue with me.
