Insurgent casualties for just the Fallujah operation were estimated at well over 1,000. During the Sadr uprising (gee, don't hear much about that one any more) the casualty ratio of insurgents to Americans was about 100 to 1.
It is difficult to count this sort of thing because removing a gun or rocket launcher from an insurgent body makes him an instant civilian, and the media usually tallies it up as "X Iraqis killed in the attack."
One site of the battlefield in the Sadr uprising--a cemetery--made separating fighters from civilians a lot simpler.
We also have a tendency to try and capture as many insurgents as possible, something our enemy doesn't do. If you tally up those being detained, instead of just those being shot, the number becomes more informative.
