The air-play could come from the fact that its old news. The depth of the social-welfare crises in the US is debatable, but even at its worst, its nowhere near the level of what Europe faces. Europeans have recently identified 'progress' as better benefits and perks from the state, but at the same time as this notion takes hold, they are faced with a demographic shift that makes a decline of services almost inevitable. Its possible that the economic muscle the EU provides will result in much better than expected economic growth, though, so its far from certain.
