I am really impressed with how this thread is going. I'd bet a week's pay the answers on this thread are going to turn out to be parsecs ahead of whatever answers the politicians are going to turn in.
- Don't agree on drivers licenses for illegal aliens. The key word here is still "illegal," and if we try to fudge it into "undocumented," why have the laws at all? For the state to knowingly give a drivers license to someone breaking the law is not much different than the post office providing P.O. boxes to people for the express purpose of committing mail fraud.
- Some really good stuff on education. The idea of using some form of tax credit (kind of like the "earned income" deal where the poor can actually get more back than they pay in taxes) for education support instead of vouchers is very interesting. I'd like to see that looked into some more. Still give families more choice, but not as vulnerable to the "strings" that vouchers will tend to accumulate.
- The gracious approach to the U.N., i.e. turn an infinite number of cheeks, may be noble and "the high road," but I think we've had about enough of pretending that that organization still means what its charter professes.
There is a place for some organization where countries can cooperate to get things done, but the U.N. isn't working for that function any more.
