1. Should photo ID cards be required in order to vote?
Yes indeedy.
Make em free too.
2. What will you do to secure our borders from illegal immigrants and/or terrorists?
"Better secure" would be a better question. There is no such thing as 100% secure.
Other than that, no clue.
3. Is there a better solution to Middle East turmoil, than the establishment or promotion of freely elected democratic republics? Why or why not?
Freely elected democratic republics? Sounds great to me. The bigger question is - How?
4. What are your intentions regarding Tort Reform?
Some form of caps may be a solution. Make frivolous lawsuits have punitive damages on the law firms.
Educate the juries. Sack the bad doctors who contribute most to medical malpractice.
Put companies out of business that put faulty products out in the market.
5. If you could write an Amendment to the Constitution and know it would pass and be ratified, what would that Amendment be?
Allow native Scots the ability to become King.
6. What specific measures would you recommend to protect Social Security for coming generations?
Remove caps on payroll taxes. Means test the benefits.
7. Where do you stand on eliminating the income tax and SSI tax and replacing them with a national consumption tax?
Stupid idea.
8. What will you do to ensure the integrity of the voting system?
Paper trail. Photo ID. In event of a statistical tie (where the margin of error of the count is greater than the difference in votes) have a revote.
Institute a federal standard regarding type of voting machine, number of polling places proportional to population.
9. What are the limits to judicial authority?
None. Want to be rid of activist judges? Pass better constitutional laws.
10. Given that many states give equal treatment U.S. citizens, legal aliens and illegal aliens, just what does it mean to be a U.S. citizen (besides not being hassled by INS) ?
You can vote.
11. Should undocumented aliens have the ability to get legal drivers licenses?
No.
12. What is your first proposal to balance the Federal Budget?
Cut spending, increase taxes (mainly by closing loopholes).
13. What is your proposal for lowering the National Debt?
See above, only more so.
14. Confidence in the validity of elections has fallen sharply in some places. What would you recommend to repair and rebuild that confidence?
Same question as 8.
15. What are the limits to the authority of the Federal Government?
Too big a question, too little time.......
16. Do you believe the continued existence of a central bank (the Federal Reserve) that issues fiat money is in the best interests of the U.S.?
Sure, why not?
17. What actions do you support for education reform?
Stop teaching to the test. Helps nobody.
decrease class sizes. Pay teachers more to attract better talent.
Stop promoting based on seniority.
18. Should judicial nominees be guaranteed a “yes or no†vote in Committee? Why or why not?
Sure. Why would anyone object?
But it's the wrong question........
19. What should our short and long term strategies be in Iraq?
Largely what we're doing now, without the screw-ups. Get more international involvement and I dont really care how much we have to bribe "Old Europe" to do it.....
20. What should the United States’ relationship be with the United Nations?
Act as a proponent of reform.
Holding it at arm's length and ridiculing the bad things it does while ignoring the good does noone any favours.
Now I'll go read the others.
I imagine most here are fairly close in most answers...
